How to Get Around in Japan

Today I will start a chain of posts that will explain the single most important skill that you will need while living or travelling in Japan.  Getting around Japan with no private transportation may seem fairly daunting at first, but after the first day of using the buses, subways, and trains throughout the country the simplicity and layout of the system will become second nature.  There is a reason why Japan is known for its thorough public transportation system; you can literally travel from one end of the country to the other without using a car or plane.

In my subsequent posts I will look at each form of transportation in detail and make comments from my personal experiences as well as provide useful online resources for looking up schedules and pricing.
